Barbara (Crist) Marini Cooper died on January 22, 2017, in Green Bay, WI. She was born in Madison on October 31, 1929, to Thomas and Edna Crist, and lived her early years in Wisconsin Dells. Her group of friends – the Hubba-Hubba Girls – stayed in close contact throughout their lives. After high school, Barbara went to UW-Madison where she majored in music. She married Antonio “Tony” Marini and together they had two sons and two daughters. Due to Tony’s career with the US Department of Agriculture, the family lived in many places in Minnesota and Wisconsin, making their home for the longest time in Kewaunee, WI, where they enjoyed many years with family and friends. Barbara loved music in all forms: singing and playing for church choirs, teaching piano and organ students, accompanying vocalists and instrumentalists, singing professionally with choral groups including the Dudley Birder Chorale at St. Norbert, enjoying performances at the Weidner Center, and attending UW Badgers Varsity Band concerts.
Barbara’s husband Tony died in 1992. In 2002, she married Ret. USAF Col. M.V. Cooper and they moved to San Antonio, TX. After he died in 2012, Barbara returned to her family in Wisconsin, moving to Green Bay in 2013.
Barbara is survived by three of her children: Marcia (Mark) McDermid, Tom (Sue) Marini, Ann (Jerry) Pansier; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sister, Lu Schwieger; three sisters-in-law, Gladys Marini, Lorraine Marini and Emma McLin; her AFS “son” Dr. Carl Leibl of Germany; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, her son William “Bill” Marini, her brother Thomas Crist Jr and his wife Nona Crist, and several Marini family relatives.
Barbara’s family is deeply grateful for the exceptional care she received from the professional staff at Marla Vista Gardens Memory Care Residence in Green Bay. The caregivers at SouthernCare Hospice helpfully and respectfully served the needs of Barbara and her family throughout the last months of her life.
A memorial service will be held at Buchanan Funeral Home in Kewaunee, WI, on Saturday, January 28, from 12:00am – 2:00pm.
