Former Sister Bay Village Administrator and current Jacksonport Plan Commission Chairperson Bob Kufrin says communities need to be careful when it comes to selling off assets like extra liquor licenses. Both town boards in Jacksonport and Sevastopol have been approached by Door Artisan Cheese Company owner Mike Brennenstuhl to transfer their Class B liquor license to the town of Egg Harbor, where the on-site cheese plant and restaurant is being built. Kufrin says the Jacksonport Plan Commission has been appointed to bring business to the town and believes transferring an asset like a liquor license would be short sighted.
The liquor license and the impact the Jacksonport Plan Commission has had since it was created in 2015 will be among the topics discussed when the town board meets January 9. The town of Sevastopol recently voted to set the price for its currently unused liquor license at $100,000.
