The Southern Door Eagles girls basketball team was triumphant over the visiting Gibraltar Vikings on Tuesday night as they rode a 22-12 halftime lead all the way to a 40-28 victory. Southern Door was led by Tehya Bertrand and Megan Pavlik who each scored 11 and 8 points respectively.
Gibraltar was plagued by foul trouble in the first half as Southern Door focused their offensive attack on Peyton Pluff who was called for two fouls within the first five minutes of the half, and was forced to sit until late in the first half. She finished with a season low 6 points. Raina Heleen was the bright spot for the Vikings as she accumulated 8 points, 3 steals, and 3 assists.
Although his team lost the game, head coach Josh Kropuenske was impressed with the teams defensive effort holding Southern Door to their lowest scoring outing this season.
Gibraltar falls to 5-4 in conference and will return to non-conference action on Thursday against Crivitz while Southern Door 6-1 will host Luxemburg-Casco on Thursday as well. Both games will tip off at 7:30 pm.
