A Sturgeon Bay man will cast one of the five hundred and thirty-eight votes in this year’s Electoral College. Bill Berglund will travel to Madison on December 19th as one of ten Wisconsin voters selected by the Republican Party to vote for the winner of the statewide election, Donald Trump. Because Wisconsin had voted for the Democratic candidate the previous seven presidential elections Berglund has never been an Electoral College voter. And now that a Republican carried the state Berglund, chair of the Door County Republicans, is honored to cast his vote.
But Berglund reports that his vote has come with much more than he originally expected. Over 4.6 million people have signed a petition on change.org urging Electoral College voters to become “faithless electors” and flip their vote from Trump to Clinton. And Berglund says he has not been immune from people targeting his vote.
Berglund concludes that he will cast his vote for Trump despite all of the drama surrounding his vote. Wisconsin remains in the national political spotlight as Green Party candidate Jill Stein just filed for a recount within the state.
