The nine-day deer hunting season concludes today, but that does not mean drivers should be less vigilant when it comes to safely driving on the highways and county roads. Door County Sheriff Steve Delarwelle says with the holiday weekend travel peaking again tonight, drivers should be extra cautious and drive defensively.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Wisconsin drivers had 20,000 collisions with deer during 2015, accounting for more than 16% of all vehicle accidents. The average damage per vehicle was $4000, according to State Farm Insurance.
