After a rude awakening on the opening kickoff, the Green Bay Packers responded like a sleeping giant at Mall of America Field in Minneapolis last night. Vikings return man Cordarrelle Patterson took the opening kickoff of Sunday’s game 109 yards for a touchdown,
setting the NFL record for the longest kickoff return score.
From that point on the Packers took over the game. Long sustained drives with numerous third and fourth down conversions, a quick strike score on a 93-yard punt return by Micah Hyde, even a 76-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Rodgers to Jordy Nelson added up to a 44-31 Green Bay victory.
The 41 points scored last night was the most the Packers scored in a game at the Metrodome. It was the final meeting played there by the NFC North rivals.
Eddie Lacy carried the ball 29 times for 94 yards and a touchdown, Nelson finished with seven receptions for 123 yards and two touchdowns, and Rodgers completed 24 of 29 passes for 285 yards and two touchdown passes.
Next week the Packers host the Chicago Bears for Monday Night Football at Lambeau Field.
