The focus of this week’s “Alumni Spotlight” is Luxemburg-Casco graduate Mark Porath ’75, who participated in football, basketball and baseball during his distinguished high school sports career.
Following high school, Porath attended the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and played one year of college basketball under Coach Dave Buss.
As far as his fondest high school memory, Porath can’t narrow it down to a single game or play. Rather, he likes to remember the friendships he made with teammates and the great rivalry games against area teams like Algoma and Kewaunee.
Porath recalls Roger Van Lanen of Algoma and Charlie Novak of Kewaunee as two of the best players he ever faced in high school basketball.
When it comes to giving advice to today’s student athletes, Porath shares the importance of having fun and keeping things in perspective.
Porath and his wife, Sue (Salmon), were high school sweethearts and the king and queen of the 1974 Homecoming. They have three daughters – Jackie, Lindsay and Brooke – and one grandson. Porath has worked as a window and door specialist for Van’s Lumber & Custom Builders in Dyckesville since 1983.
