Brewers’ starter Kyle Lohse gave the Chicago Cubs 5 runs in the first inning and Milwaukee never recovered in the 5-8 loss at Wrigley Field Friday.
Lohse was one out away from giving up just one run in the first when Junior Lake connected for his first career grand slam. In five innings Lohse gave up a season-high 7 runs, allowed 11 hits and struck out three. Jimmy Nelson relieved Lohse and threw two scoreless innings in his major league debut.
The Brewers hopped onto the board in the second on a sacrifice fly by Norichika Aoki and Aramis Ramirez added a home run. Scooter Gennett hit a three-run homer in the eighth to make it 5-7.
Game two of the series gets underway at 12:05.
