Oconto Delivers School’s First Ever State Championship

Co-Packerland Conference champions, the Oconto varsity baseball team delivered the first ever state championship for Oconto High School with a 4-3 win over Westby yesterday. Sturgeon Bay and Gibraltar also claimed a share of the conference title but were eliminated in the sectional level of play.

The Blue Devils hoisted a regional championship plaque two weeks ago, claimed a sectional championship last week and earned the school’s first ever state championship Thursday at Fox Cities Stadium.

The WIAA Division 3 state baseball title was won despite committing eight errors. A three-run fifth inning was the difference for Oconto. Tanner Pillsbury, Grant Frazer, Trent Mehlberg and Blake Campshure each had multi-hit games against Westby.

Senior Tyler Trepanier allowed five hits, struck out two, walked just one and did not give up an earned run to catapult Oconto to the state title.
