Regional Final Softball Ends Three Local Teams' Seasons

Algoma and Luxemburg-Casco are the only area teams heading to the sectional softball tournament after yesterday’s regional final high school softball teams played in frigid conditions.

Algoma cruised past Sevastopol 15-1. Jordan Demmin allowed just two hits and struck out five in the win. Taylor Schmidt led the way at the plate with four hits and Meg Ryan added three hits and three RBI’s for the Wolves. Algoma hosts their sectional semi-final against Oakfield next Tuesday at 4:30 PM.

Luxemburg-Casco used a seven run fourth inning to eliminate Southern Door 8-1. Sara Simonar pitched a gem. She struck out six while allowing only four hits. Renee Kinnard finished with three hits and two RBIs, Dawn Deterville had three hits and Marissa Rukamp added two hits and two RBI’s for the Spartans. Courtney VanHout led the Eagles with two hits including a double. L-C plays Shawano at 4:00 PM Tuesday in Sturgeon Bay.

Kewaunee’s season came to an end with an 11-9 loss to Manitowoc Roncalli. Kelsey Stangel belted a two-run home run to keep things close for the Storm. Alex Richard finished a perfect 3x3 with three stolen bases for Kewaunee.
