The fields are far from perfect this spring, but sloppy playing conditions have become the norm this season for area student athletes. High school softball players are learning to adjust to their new playing surfaces with bunts not traveling as far as normal and ground balls losing momentum quicker than usual.
Tuesday night featured a couple games in Door and Kewaunee Counties. Sturgeon Bay dominated N.E.W. Lutheran 11-0. Marielle Abeyta, Marissa Ehlers and Paige Kramer each recorded two hits in the win. Freshmen Hailey Benesh pitched three scoreless innings for the Clippers and earned the win.
Luxemburg-Casco won a pitcher’s duel with Hortonville 3-1. Sara Simonar struck out five to push L-C to (4-0) on the season. Sara Kinnard’s two-run triple in the bottom of the sixth was the difference in the game.
