St. Louis fans gave Milwaukee pitcher Kyle Lohse a standing ovation when he stepped up to the plate last night in his return to St. Louis, but the admiration stopped there as the Cardinals pitchers suffocated the Brewers hitters. The Cardinals came out on top 2-0 in St. Louis last night.
St. Louis rookie right-hander Shelby Miller surrendered a single to Norichika Aoki in the first inning but that was it. Miller did not allow another hit through the seventh inning. Milwaukee drew a walk and a single looking for a rally from Cardinals closer Mitchell Boggs in the ninth but Boggs put out the flame.
Lohse gave up two runs on six hits during his seven-inning stint. He threw 82 pitches, 59 were strikes, and retired ten batters in a row from the second to fifth innings.
Lohse and the Brew Crew face the Cardinals again at 3:15 today for the second game of the series.
