
With just 35 days left before opening day of the regular season, the Milwaukee Brewers opened spring training with a win on Saturday followed by a loss yesterday in Arizona. Saturday's exhibition schedule opened with a 2-1 win over the Oakland Athletics. Sunday, the Cleveland Indians topped Milwaukee 7-4.
Most of the pre-season attention will be directed at the battle at first base. Corey Hart is out until at least the end of March and Mat Gamel is out for the season with a knee injury. The open competition at first base will raise the level of intensity for the entire team, according to General Manager Doug Melvin.
