WIAA State Wrestling Results

Colin Shubert brought home Southern Door’s third state wrestling title Saturday night and Luxemburg-Casco wrestlers won two-of-three titles they wrestled for at the Kohl Center in Madison.

Schubert defeated Andrew Philibeck of Freedom, 8-4 in the Division 2 145-pound championship match. The senior (47-5) leads the Eagles in career wins but this was his first state berth.

Luxemburg-Casco’s junior Luke Destiche (44-7) conquered Reed Ambrosious (47-4) of Freedom, 8-1, in the 220-pound Division 2 title match.

Senior Newton Smerchek (47-2) ended his high school wrestling career by pinning Brandon Elrick (45-7) of Little Chute in under two minutes in the 285-pound championship match.

Jordan Pardowsky (37-15) fell to Oconto Falls’ Jacob Morrissey (44-0) in the 170-pound championship, 18-4.

This was the first time since 2008 that the Spartans brought home two gold medals from the state tournament in the same season and now boast 34 all-time state wrestling champions.
