Phil and Ann Schmitz of Forestville are two of the proudest parents in Door County this week after their daughter took first place at one of her first collegiate track and field meets. Belmont Abbey is a NCAA Division II college just outside of Charlotte, North Carolina. In her freshman year, Lucy Schmitz won the 3000m run with a strong final kilometer to post a new school record in the event with a time of 10:31.8.0 last weekend at the Winston-Salem State Open.
The event was held at the JDL Fast Track and featured 21 schools across Division II, III, and NAIA programs from six different states.
Lucy's performance has her ranked 39th in the nation.
