At the trade deadline, the Milwaukee Brewers traded away one of the most valuable pitchers in Major League Baseball in Zack Greinke. That move showed the league and its fans that the franchise was ready to concede the season.
Apparently that set a fire under the current roster. Milwaukee moved from 12.5 games out to within 6.5 games of the second National League Wild Card position.
Yesterday the Brewers hit five home runs before the end of the fourth inning en route to a 12-8 win that clinched a three game sweep of the Pirates. In the game 20 runs were scored on 26 hits and eight home runs.
The victory made it 11 of 13 and has the 'Brew Crew' within three games of .500 for the first time since July 19.
Yovani Gallardo hit his 10th career home run but had a terrible day on the mound. He allowed seven earned runs on 11 hits in 4 and two thirds innings.
Kameron Loe earned the win in relief and John Axford logged his 23rd save.
