Sturgeon Bay's George Husby has been inducted into just about every Wisconsin baseball hall Of fame known to man. In 1990 Husby was inducted into the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame. In 1994 he was honored with a spot in the Door County Baseball Hall of Fame. More recently, Husby was inducted into the Wisconsin Sports Collectors Hall of Fame.
Add one more hall of fame to the list. Last weekend, George Husby was inducted into the Wisconsin American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame for his role with the Sturgeon Bay Bays. As coach of Sturgeon Bay Legion from 1967 – 1970 and 1981 to present, Husby also served as assistant coach in 1966 and 1971 through the 1980. He added Business Manager to his list of titles for the Bays in 1971 and has held that position ever since. The recent Golden Heart Recipient has also been associate director of Wisconsin Legion Region 4 for many years serving as an advisory member.
Husby was instrumental in starting the Sturgeon Bay Junior Legion team in 1976. It is still believed to be the first Junior Legion team in the state of Wisconsin. Appropriately called the founding father of Legion Baseball in Sturgeon Bay, Husby was inducted to the Wisconsin American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame along with Stan Torstenson of Genoa City and Jim Coonan of La Crosse. These three men make up the 2012 induction class into a very honorable brotherhood of other great state baseball figures.
Congratulations to George Husby on this great honor!
