The opening round of Door County Baseball League Playoff action featured two tight ball games yesterday. The number two seed was eliminated and the top seed nearly was sent packing for the season too.
Egg Harbor was nearly unbeatable during the regular season but showed chinks in the armor yesterday as they just got by fourth seeded West Jacksonport 6-5. Tied at five in the bottom of the sixth inning, Riley Spetz belted an RBI single to give the regular season champs a one run lead that held up for the final four innings. Brian Cook and Tom Schmidt powered Egg Harbor to victory with a home run each. Woody Schartner had three hits including a two-run home run and pitched quite well for the Ports.
Third seeded Kolberg upset two seed Sister Bay 14-9 on 14 hits. The Bays fell behind 3-0 in the first inning and never took the lead in the game. Chris Wery finished with four hits including two homers and five RBI's. Stuart Larsen homered for Sister Bay in the loss.
Last weekend's action sets up a county league championship this Sunday at 1:30 PM. Kolberg will play at Egg Harbor.
