The Bullfrogs took a 3-2 loss to the Madison Mallards at Joannes Stadium on Tuesday night, earning a series split and falling to 2-3 on the second half of the season.
The Bullfrogs took a 2-0 lead in the third inning. A Brian Celsi single and walks by David Armendariz and Collin Shaw loaded the bases for Billy Moon, whose RBI fielder’s choice brought home Celsi for the first run of the inning. Armendariz later scored on a wild pitch by Daniel Gibson.
The Bullfrogs threatened again in the fifth inning. Armendariz and Shaw both reached to begin the inning, but the middle of Green Bay’s lineup went down in order to end the threat.
The Mallards got on the board for the first time in the series and took the lead in the seventh inning. Leadoff singles by Derek Fisher and Nicholas Howard, followed by a towering home run by Jeff Zimmerman gave the Mallards a 3-2 lead.
The loss went to Taylor Black (4-1). He allowed three earned runs in six and two thirds innings of work. He was relieved by Parker Schrage who allowed one hit and held the Mallards scoreless in an inning and a third of work. Will Landsheft pitched a scoreless ninth.
