After being selected 18th overall in the WNBA Draft, UWGB standout Julie Wojta was cut by the defending champion Minnesota Lynx. The team had just one spot on the roster open and it went to third overall pick Devereaux Peters in May.
Former DoorCountyDailyNews.com sports reporter John Focke is the play-by-play announcer for the Minnesota Lynx and said, "Wojta signed a seven-day contract with the Minnesota Lynx on Monday and is expected to be in uniform when the team plays at Tulsa today."
After her release, Wojta signed a contract to play for a team in Belgium. However, Wojta told Focke that “Minnesota Lynx Coach Cheryl Reeve told her when she left to be ready and expect a call. She took that seriously like a job and continued to work and she's glad she did.”
Wojta will become the second player in UWGB history to play in the WNBA. Chandra Johnson played eight games for the Los Angeles Sparks in 2003.
