Brewers Bullpen Falls Apart Again

The Brewers' offense showed up in a big way on Independence Day but the bullpen let the team down again. Closer John Axford got his team to two quick outs to start the ninth inning, then the wheels fell off. Just one strike away from victory, Axford left a fastball out over the plate to Marlins first baseman Gaby Sanchez. The ball did not land until it hit the seats in right field. It was Axford's fifth blown save of the season.

In the 10th inning, Miami third baseman Hanley Ramirez hit the game winning RBI single off Manny Parra to hand Milwaukee the 7-6 loss at Miller Park.

First baseman Corey Hart nearly tied it when he hit a leadoff warning track blast. Rickie Weeks followed with a one out double but Heath Bell avenged his blown save for the Marlins a day earlier with a strikeout and a groundout to end the game.
