Green Bay Bullfrogs Winners Of 9 Out Of 10

The Bullfrogs completed a three-game sweep of the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters on Wednesday night, winning 7-5 in another exciting game at Witter Field.

Green Bay struck first in the top of inning number one. Brooks Orton came in to score on an error by Rafter catcher Nick Ammaratti to make the score 1-0.

The Rafters came right back in the second inning when Brandon Hohl hit his third home run of the season, a two run shot off of Green Bay pitcher Zak Hermans. Wisconsin Rapids tacked on one more in the third to take a 3-1 lead.

David Armendariz scored on a wild pitch in the fourth to cut the lead in half, but Green Bay’s biggest inning was the three-run sixth.

Kevin Krause, Alex Abrams, and Brian Celsi each had RBI singles in the sixth for the ‘Frogs as they took a 5-3 lead. Green Bay added one in the seventh on an Armendariz home run, and one more in the ninth when Justin Seager drove home Mac Acker with his 13th double of the season.

The ‘Frogs entered the ninth with a 7-3 lead. After a walk and two base hits off of DJ Slaton, Rafter pinch-hitter Sean Godfrey singled home two runs to cut the Green Bay lead to 7-5. With two outs and runners on first and second, Bullfrog closer Will Landsheft entered the game in a save situation. He struck out Brandon Downes with a high fastball to earn his second consecutive save, and fourth of the year.

The win went to Zak Hermans (2-1). Ben Heller (2-1) took the loss for the Rafters.

The ‘Frogs have now won nine out of ten and remain three games back of LaCrosse for first place in the Northwood’s League South Division. There are seven games remaining in the first half of the season, and Green Bay is set to take on the Loggers in a two game set starting on Sunday.
