Bullfrogs Stringing Together Wins

The Bullfrogs returned to their winning ways on Monday night, defeating the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters 5-1 at Joannes Stadium in game one of a three game set.

The Rafters struck first in the second inning. After Brandon Downes reached base on a dropped third strike, he came around to score on a Nick Ammaratti single with two outs. This was an unearned run for Green Bay starter Ben Graff.

The Bullfrogs tied it up at 1-1 right away in the bottom of the second. David Armendariz was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and then scored on an Alex Abrams single to left field.

The ‘Frogs tacked on two more in the fifth inning to take the lead. Billy Moon singled to begin the inning, then stole second and third base and scored on a Clayton Eslick double. Eslick advanced to third on a throwing error by Austin Neary. He then scored on a steal of home plate. After reaching base on a walk, Armendariz took second base, and during a rundown Eslick swiped home to make the score 3-1. This was the second consecutive game in which the ‘Frogs executed a double steal to score a run.

Green Bay added one more in the sixth on a Brian Celsi sacrifice fly, and one in the eighth on a Jason McMurray single.

Ben Graff (3-1) earned the victory for the ‘Frogs. He went five innings without allowing an earned run while striking out eight Rafters. He was relieved by his college teammate at San Francisco, Christian Cecilio, went three scoreless out of the pen. Parker Schrage set down the Rafters in order en route to a scoreless ninth.

The Bullfrogs go to Wisconsin Rapids for the next two to complete the series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 on Tuesday night from Witter Field. If you cannot make it to the game, go to greenbaybullfrogs.com to listen live or to northwoodsleauge.tv to watch live.
