Some area high schools had vested interest in one topic voted upon at the WIAA annual meeting in Sturgeon Bay yesterday. The opportunity to make member schools responsible for conference realignment was voted down. As a result of the 400-26 vote, the WIAA will continue to control conference realignment.
A number of parents, coaches and faculty have voiced concerns over travel time for sporting events. Not only is it a time issue but a cost of transportation concern. If a change to the Packerland Conference will occur, it will be a result of WIAA mandate.
The other big topic addressed in Stevens Point yesterday was the multiplier. The implementing a 1.65 multiplier to private schools for postseason placement in all sports was eventually sent to committee and nothing official will happen for the 2014-2015 school year. The vote to go to committee was 352-77.
