Her freshman season at UW-Oshkosh went better than most expected, but it got even better this week when Algoma graduate Taylor Schmidt learned she was selected to the National Division 3 All-Freshman Team.
The award, announced by Women’s DIII News, was earned by ten players in the United States. Her 10.2 points per game and nearly three assists per contest put UWO into the Sweet 16. What put Schmidt over the top was her physical style of defense where she collected 71 rebounds and 39 steals from the point guard position.
Taylor said she found out about the award on Twitter and that at first she was in a state of disbelief.

UW Oshkosh had six solid freshman contributors, including Alex Richard from Kewaunee, but Schmidt was the most accomplished of the six. The young nucleus will remain intact and hopes to improve on a (26-4) mark next season.
It was also announced this week that the Titans finished ninth in overall national team rankings according to D3hoops.com.
