Local Teams Winless In Regional Quarterfinal Girls Basketball

Round one of the WIAA regional girls basketball tournament began last night for area teams. Each team lost their round one matchup thus signaling the end of the winter sports season for most of the Packerland Conference. Algoma and Kewaunee each sat idle waiting to host a regional semi-final Friday night.

In Division 3, ninth seeded Luxemburg-Casco lost 47-40 to host Roncalli. The Kinnard connection again led the way but it was not enough against the eighth seeded Jets.

Southern Door was unable to score a single point in the second or third quarters and fell 25-13 to (#12) Chilton. The Eagles were the lone team to earn a home game in the first round of play Tuesday night. Home court advantage proved unimportant in the defensive battle.

Sturgeon Bay fell 53-32 at (#7) Wrightstown. The Clippers were shutout in the third quarter and never found consistent scoring this season.

The Division 4 game was the best of the night for area teams. The result however was the same. The Vikings lost 68-66 at (#4) Manitowoc Lutheran.

Finally in Division 5, Sevastopol was ousted by fourth ranked Lena 42-34. The fifth seeded Pioneers season comes to an end but not without optimism moving ahead. The team consisted of mostly underclassmen.
