Four Packerland Wrestlers Earn Trip To State

Kewaunee’s David Steinhorst wrestled his way to the top of the 195 pound weight class earning a sectional championship Saturday.  His teammate Seth Hallgren was unable to earn a state berth.

Southern Door tied a school record set in 1989 by qualifying three for the state tournament in Madison. Jacob Englebert at 145 and Mitchell Overbeck at 285 each were crowned sectional champions in Seymour.

Jacob had a quick start to his sectional tournament with two pins. Then the match of the day came in the final against last year’s state champion Dewey Krueger of Oconto Falls. Englbert wrestled technically sound and shutout Krueger 3-0.

Mitchell Overbeck had a similar day with two pins followed by a 3-1 decision over Andrew Johnson of Peshtigo.

Hunter Pawelski also earned a state individual wrestling tournament appearance at 132 pounds. Pawelski finished third after a long wrestle back process. He finished the day (3-1) including a pin over Brett Ash of Oconto Falls to lock up the final state qualifier position.

Southern Door saw freshmen Michael Bertrand and River Pawelski each finish one place away from state. Ethan Werkheiser finished off the podium but wrapped up a tremendous career for Southern Door.
