Marissa Selner, Taylor Schmidt & Alex Richard Boost UWO

Kewaunee graduate’s Marissa Selner and Alex Richard along with Algoma standout Taylor Schmidt are all now teammates on the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh women’s basketball team. The Kewaunee County connection is paying dividends early in the season for the Titans. UWO is nationally ranked for the first time since the 2005-06 season. The Titans are (8-0) and are currently 22nd in the national Division 3 rankings.

Oshkosh is not the only WIAC team ranked nationally. UW-Whitewater (7-1) is ninth in the rankings, and UW-Stevens Point (5-1) is 19th.

UW-Oshkosh is off to its best start in nine years. The Titans' eight victories include five by 18 points or more.

Taylor Schmidt is the team’s fourth leading scorer. The freshman starting guard is averaging 9.1 points per game. Selner and Richard are also providing consistent scoring. The Kewaunee grads are putting up a combined eight points per game.

UW-Oshkosh will visit UW-La Crosse tonight. The Titans then have home games in Kolf Sports Center against St. Norbert College on Dec. 16 and Marian University on Dec. 18.
