Offensive Line A Question Again
By Nick Freimuth DoorCountyDailyNews.com
January 04, 2008
The Green Bay Packers have placed offensive lineman Junius
Coston on injured reserve and signed tackle Orrin Thompson from the
practice squad. Ted Thompson, Executive Vice President, General
Manager and Director of Football Operations, made the announcement
yesterday.
In his third season with Green Bay, Coston saw action in 13 games,
including seven starts, before suffering a calf injury December 30
vs. Detroit.
Earlier this season, Thompson spent four weeks on the Packers’
active roster. A 6-foot-6, 322-pound first-year player from Duke, he
will wear No. 69. |

Badgers Finish
(9-4) With Loss In Outback Bowl
By Nick Freimuth DoorCountyDailyNews.com
January 2, 2008
With under a minute left in the Outback Bowl in Tampa Bay, Florida
the Wisconsin Badgers trailed by four points and were putting
together a textbook drive. The Tennessee Volunteers never trailed in
the contest and were in control for the majority of the game. A
fourth quarter drive conducted by senior quarterback Tyler Donovon
ended in an interception yards shy of the goal line.
Donovon was tossed around like a rag doll throughout the afternoon.
A number of late and questionable hits had the quarterback limping
since the opening possession. He still managed 14 of 24 passes for
155 yards in a 21-17 UW loss. Outback Bowl MVP Erik Ainge led the
16th ranked Vols. He managed to throw for 365 yards and two
touchdowns.
Wisconsin finished the season with a (9-4) record and will return a
number of key starters next season. |

Packers Ease
Their Way To A Victory
By Nick Freimuth DoorCountyDailyNews.com
December 31, 2007
The Green Bay Packers dominated all phases of the game yesterday
against the Detroit Lions. The contest heard on 104.1 FM WRLU and
105.1 FM WSBW ended in a 34-13 regular season grand finale.
Coach Mike McCarthy decided to sit Donald Driver, Greg Jennings,
Donald Lee, Charles Woodson, Ryan Pickett and Aaron Kampman. The
squad’s post-season spot was solidified and the game had no bearing
on the playoff picture.
Brett Favre started and played a quarter and a half. He led the Pack
to three drives ending in touchdowns. Ryan Grant rushed for the
first and Favre threw for two others. Koren Robinson caught his
first touchdown in a Packers uniform and the other was hauled in by
Bubba Franks.

On the second drive, Ryan Grant injured his left hand and the
severity is unknown. Other injuries included a quadriceps pull by
Jason Spitz, a foot injury by Will Blackmon and a calf injury by
Junius Coston.
The star of the game was rookie running back Brandon Jackson. He
managed 113 rushing yards on 20 carries.
The win tied a franchise record with 13 wins in a single season.
Green Bay will enjoy four days off during the first round bye earned
by the (13-3) record. They will host a second round game in two
weeks at Lambeau Field.

Pack Looks To Tie
Franchise Record For Wins
By Nick Freimuth DoorCountyDailyNews.com
December 30, 2007
Green Bay plays its 16th and final regular-season game Sunday when
it hosts the Detroit Lions in the 157th meeting of the rivalry. The
Lions have not won in the state of Wisconsin since a 21-17 victory
over the Packers at Lambeau Field in 1991, a streak that spans 16
consecutive Packers victories and seven Lions head coaches.
For the fourth straight season, Detroit makes its annual visit to
Lambeau Field in December. The two clubs met just over one month
ago, with Green Bay earning a hard-fought 37-26 win on Thanksgiving.
The Packers’ recent dominance in the series hasn’t just been limited
to games played in Wisconsin. They’ve won 12 of the last 14 overall
meetings, and Head Coach Mike McCarthy is 3-0 against the Lions.
Sunday is the 253rd consecutive regular-season sellout (266
including playoffs) at Lambeau Field, the league’s longest-tenured
stadium. Winners of 16 of its last 19 contests, Green Bay has
clinched a first round bye for the first time since 1997. One week
after a rough performance in wintry conditions in Chicago,
quarterback Brett Favre and the offense welcome the sight of the
Lions.
The Packers have scored more points (3,182) against the Lions than
any other franchise, and Favre has completed more passes and thrown
for more yards against the Lions than any other opponent. His 52
touchdown passes against Detroit rank just two behind his personal
best of 54 against Minnesota. A 13th win would match Green Bay’s
franchise record for wins in a season. That goal seems attainable,
especially given the fact that Green Bay owns the NFL’s best W-L
record in regular-season finales since 1994.
The game can be heard on 104.1 FM WRLU and 105.1 FM WSBW. Kickoff is
scheduled for noon with pre-game coverage beginning at 11:00 a.m. |
