Amazing Night For Spartan Basketball
By Nick Freimuth DoorCountyDailyNews.com
December 19, 2007

Luxemburg-Casco basketball had the kind of night that will get a program back on track. A girl's win in convincing fashion and a buzzer beater for the boys has Spartans fans joyous today. The Spartan girl's hammered Shawano 75-44 in Bay Conference action. Senior post player Kim Mleziva had a double double with 14 points and 18 rebounds. Underclassmen April LeGrave led L-C with a game-high 18 points for the Spartans. Mariah Mleziva managed 12 points and Kalli Schmelzer scored 11. On the other side of the spectrum of winning is a buzzer beater by junior Josh K. VandenBush, not to be confused with senior Josh D. VandenBush. The Spartans trailed by one at home against Shawano before a mid range jump shot fell through the net giving the Spartans their first Bay Conference victory. The game ended 55-54. Sophomore Travis Tlachac had his best game of the season with 17 points. Josh K. VandenBush finished with 14 and Jake Sinkula had 9.

Packers Snubbed In Pro Bowl
By Nick Freimuth DoorCountyDailyNews.com
December 19, 2007

Represented by two selections on each side of the ball, the Green Bay Packers learned Tuesday that quarterback Brett Favre, wide receiver Donald Driver, defensive end Aaron Kampman and cornerback Al Harris were named Pro Bowl selections by the National Football League.
Three Packers players were named first alternates: linebacker Nick Barnett, tackle Chad Clifton and cornerback Charles Woodson.
For Favre, this marks the ninth Pro Bowl selection of his career and first since 2003. This season, the NFC’s leader in passing yards has broken some of the league’s most hallowed records, including career touchdown passes, passing yards and wins.
Driver earns his second consecutive and third career Pro Bowl selection. He tied a franchise record with 1,000 receiving yards in a fifth overall season, joining Sterling Sharpe and Pro Football Hall of Famer James Lofton as one of three Packers to achieve that feat.
Kampman, in his sixth season out of Iowa, returns to Hawaii for the second consecutive year. The defensive end has started 72 consecutive games for the Packers and stands tied for third in the NFC with 12 sacks.
Harris is the only Packers player making his first trip to the Pro Bowl. In his 10th NFL season and fifth with Green Bay, he has totaled 36 tackles, two interceptions and nine pass deflections.
Other alternates include safety Nick Collins, tight end Bubba Franks, running back Ryan Grant, linebacker A.J. Hawk, wide receiver Greg Jennings, tight end Donald Lee and center Scott Wells.

Favre Owns Another Record
By Nick Freimuth DoorCountyDailyNews.com
December 17, 2007

'The Green Bay Packers are still alive in the race for home field advantage throughout the playoffs after a 33-14 win and a 10-6 Dallas loss. The two teams are tied in the standings at 12-2 but the Cowboys have the head-to-head tiebreaker. Dallas will finish the season
with two games on the road against NFC East opponents. Green Bay travels to Chicago and hosts Detroit to end the regular season.

Yesterday’s Packer win also locked up a first round bye after the Seattle Seahawks lost. Brett Favre made history by passing Dan Marino as the all-time leader in passing yards. The throw came in the third quarter on a 7-yard slant pattern to Donald Driver.
Kicker Mason Crosby had a career day with four field goals and three extra points. The performance all but guaranteed he will break Ryan Longwell’s record for most points scored in a season by a Packers player. He is 7 points shy of that record.
The Bears and Packers will kick off at Soldier Field Sunday at noon. The contest can be heard on your stations for Packers football in Door County, 104.1 FM WRLU and 105.1 FM WSBW.

Instead, 145 pound Dan Steinhorst took first place in his weight class with an 8-5 decision over Cedar Grove/Belgium's Nathan Mueller.
Malechek did make it to the finals at 275 but fell in overtime to Matt Cuadra of Oshkosh West 5-3. Shane Wotachek also made it to the finals for Kewaunee at 125 pounds. He lost a 6-1 decision to West DePere's Alex Puckhaber.

The Pack Heavily Favored Heading Into St. Louis Today
By Nick Freimuth DoorCountyDailyNews.com
December 16, 2007

The Packers deserve to be 10 1/2 point favorites against the lowly St. Louis Rams today. Green Bay heads to St. Louis to face the Rams one week after clinching the NFC North title. It is the 18th division crown in franchise history. The Packers come into the matchup winners of 15 of their last 17 games and stand in second place in the NFC by virtue of their 11-2 record.
The team also has won seven of its last eight road contests. The Packers may be coming off what could be the most balanced performance of
the season. Green Bay excelled in all three phases last Sunday against Oakland. A balanced offensive attack tallied 445 total net yards (266
passing, 179 rushing), while the defense surrendered just 233 yards, its best output of the season. But perhaps its best effort came from the special teams unit, which scored twice in the division-clinching win.
Including five contests against the St. Louis Cardinals, who played in the city from 1960-87, the Packers are 3-4-1 all-time in St. Louis. They have won only once by the Arch since Vince Lombardi left the team in the late 1960s. That victory came in 1996, when the Packers defeated the Rams, 24-9, on their way to the Super Bowl XXXI title.
Favre has a chance to make even more NFL history this Sunday. He needs 184 yards to pass Dan Marino’s all-time NFL record for career passing yards (61,361). Favre, who surpassed Marino on the league’s all-time touchdown passes list in Week 4, will attempt to break another of the league’s most hallowed records in his 251st consecutive regularseason start.
