Packers Take 4 Game Lead In NFC North
By Nick Freimuth
DoorCountyDailyNews.com
November 23, 2007
The NFC North was all but decided
yesterday when the Packers beat the Lions 37-26. Brett Favre
managed another 300+ yards throwing, three touchdowns and no
interceptions. At one point in the game, Favre completed 20
consecutive passes. The win gives Green Bay a four game lead in
the division and the magic number for a first round bye is four.
The Packers stumbled out of the gate offensively; however, the
defense stepped up their play. Green Bay could have easily
fallen into a 14-0 hole. Instead, the Packers defense allowed
two field goals and a 6-0 disadvantage.
Wisconsin's team will travel to Dallas on Thursday for a game
that should decide home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
A win would put Green Bay in the driver's seat for the remainder
of the season. |

Packers And Lions On Thanksgiving Is A Great
Mix
By Nick Freimuth
DoorCountyDailyNews.com
November 22, 2007
Green Bay renews a Thanksgiving
rivalry as it takes on division foe Detroit in the annual
holiday contest for the first time since 2003. Green Bay comes
into the contest winners of 13 of its last 14 games and tied for
the NFC’s best record. With a win this past Sunday over the
Panthers, the Packers are off to their best start since 1962,
when Vince Lombardi led Green Bay to a 10-0 start en route to a
13-1-0 record and the eighth world title in franchise history.
The team also started 10-0 in 1929 and went on to capture its
first NFL title under team founder Curly Lambeau.
The Packers carry a six-game road winning streak into Thursday’s
contest. A victory would established the third-longest road
winning streak in franchise history. Green Bay has won seven of
its last eight games against NFC North opponents, dating back to
last season. Head Coach Mike McCarthy has yet to lose a division
game on the road (4-0).
Thursday’s game has playoff implications for both clubs. The
Packers own a three-game division lead over Detroit. Including a
pair of playoff clashes early in quarterback Brett Favre’s
career, this marks Game No. 156 in the venerable Detroit-Green
Bay series. Favre has more career passing yards against the
Lions (7,774) than any opponent.
The Packers have enjoyed recent success against the Lions.
Winners of three straight, they have won 11 of the last 13
meetings between the longtime rivals. No other NFL teams have
played every year since 1932, when the Packers first met the
Lions, then known as the Portsmouth (Ohio) Spartans.
The Packers first played a league game on Thanksgiving in 1923,
a 19-0 victory over the Hammond Pros. They last played on
Thanksgiving
against the Lions in Detroit in 2003, a 22-14 Lions victory.
Thursday marks 56 years to the day when Green Bay first played
at Detroit on Thanksgiving, a 52-35 Detroit victory on Nov. 22,
1951. The two rivals played for 13 consecutive seasons, from
1951-1963, before the league began rotating opponents for the
Lions. Green Bay’s 9-1 record marks its best start since 1962.
Incidentally, the Packers headed into Detroit for a Thanksgiving
showdown in ’62 with a 10-0 record, a game also played on Nov.
22. That day, the Packers suffered their only blemish on the
season. The Packers next played on the holiday in 1970, when
they traveled to Dallas. They also played the Cowboys on
Thanksgiving in a 1994
matchup.
This will mark the third Thanksgiving contest between the Lions
and Packers this decade. The Packers won a 29-27 contest against
the Lions
in 2001 behind two Favre touchdown passes, their last appearance
in the Pontiac Silverdome. The game can be heard on 104.1 FM
WRLUand 105.1 FM WSBW. |

Favre Ties
Marino
By Nick Freimuth
DoorCountyDailyNews.com
November 19, 2007
With a 21-3 lead at the
half, the Green Bay Packers held on to their ninth win of the
season against Carolina yesterday. The 31-17 final score doesn’t
tell the whole story. Special teams led to two of the Packers
first half touchdowns. Tramon Williams and Korren Robinson each
had huge returns to spark the Packers offense.
Brett Favre tied Dan
Marino with his 62nd all time three-touchdown
performance. Favre threw two touchdowns to Donald Lee and one to
Greg Jennings.
The defense managed to
intercept two Vinnie Testaverde passes and cause one fumble near
the goal line before the end of the first half.
Green
Bay is (9-1) for the first time since 1962 and will travel to
Detroit for a Thanksgiving game on Thursday. You can listen to the
game on 104.1 FM WRLU or 105.1 FM WSBW. |

Packers Aim For
(9-1) Today
By Nick Freimuth
DoorCountyDailyNews.com
November 18, 2007
The Packers host their second consecutive home game one week
after improving to 8-1 for the first time since 2002. Green Bay
comes into the contest winners of 12 of its last 13 games and
tied for the NFC’s best record. Today marks the 251st
consecutive regular-season sellout, 264 including playoffs, at
Lambeau Field, the league’s longest-tenured stadium. With a win,
the Packers would earn the best start in team history since
1962, when Vince Lombardi led Green Bay to a 10-0 start en route
to their eighth world title.
A familiar non-divisional foe, the Panthers come to Lambeau
Field for the first time since 2002. The two clubs first met in
1996 in the NFC Championship game. Antonio Freeman’s go-ahead TD
catch gave the Packers their first lead of the day, as Green Bay
earned its first Super Bowl berth in 29 years. Sunday is the
10th meeting in 12 years between the teams. Just three games
have been played in Green Bay, with the Packers holding a 2-1
advantage over the Panthers.
Establishing a true home-field advantage is something the club
Sunday’s effort against the Vikings, in which Green Bay nearly
doubled the offensive output of Minnesota, 488 yards to 247, was
undoubtedly the most complete effort of the Mike McCarthy era.
Green Bay Packers football will is on the air on 104.1 FM WRLU
and 105.1 FM WSBW today. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.

DoorCountyDailyNews.com
November 17, 2007
Last night on 104.1 FM WRLU, we kicked off the 9-day gun
deer-hunting season with the third year of Deer Hunters Roundup.
Dennis "The Buck Baggin’ Barber" lived up to his name
on opening day and bagged a seven point buck just before 8:00
a.m. I got into the hunting action this year and shot a nubby
buck at 6:55 a.m.
The big deer of the day
however, went to Jim Watters of Sturgeon Bay. He shot a 17-point
buck and earned $170 from the Pines II Asylum. You could be the
big buck contest winner tonight. Stop by the Pines II to
register your big buck and you could win $10 per point. That
program is sponsored by the Pines II Asylum.
Door County Hunter’s
Safety instructors Royal and Cleis Leidig joined us on the
program to discuss various hunting safety tips. Tonight we will
talk about the secrets to good venison recipes with Mark
Marchant from Marchant’s Meats.
Join us
from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Pines II Asylum for Deer Hunters Round
Up on 104.1 FM WRLU. |
