L-C Falls,
Denmark Still Undefeated By Mike Kollmanserger DoorCountyDailyNews.com September 29, 2007
The Denmark Vikings (5-0. 5-1
overall) used three first quarter touchdowns to propel
themselves to a 32-21 Bay Conference win over the slumping
Luxemburg-Casco Spartans (1-4.1-5 overall) on Friday night at
Denmark High School. The win was the fourth in row for the
Vikings while the loss was the third straight for the Spartans.
Viking senior running back Logan Krueger showed why he is one
of the best athletes in Northeast Wisconsin by
taking the first play from scrimmage 68 yards for a touchdown.
After an 80 yard kickoff return for a score by Spartans returner
Derek Willems, the Vikings put the ball right back into
Krueger's hands and he responded with a 66 yard scamper for the
third touchdown scored combined by both teams in the first
1:37. Three minutes later, Denmark quarterback Luke Delain
hooked up with tight end Cody Potts on a 30 yard TD pass to make
the score 18-7 with 7:20 remaining in the first quarter. L-C
cut the lead to three when senior running back Ryan Zellner
plunged across the goal line from three yards out. The
successful two-point conversion made the score 18-15 with 9:47
left in the first half. The Spartans would get no closer as
Delain ran 34 yards for a TD before the half and then connected
with Krueger from 22 yards away late in the third quarter to
give the Vikings a 32-15 lead. Spartan senior running back Nick
Lloyd added a one yard TD late to make it a little closer, but
L-C just ran out of time. Lloyd led the Spartan ground attack
with 72 yards on 14 carries. Zellner added 31 yards on 12
attempts. The Vikings gained 319 yards on the ground with
Logan Krueger leading all rushers with 262 yards on just 19
carries (13.8 yards/att). Luke Delain was 4 of 6 for 83 yards
and two TDs. The Spartans return home next Friday night to face
West DePere with the pre-game show beginning at 6:45 on 96.7FM

Clippers To
Play Without Curtain By Nick Freimuth DoorCountyDailyNews.com September 28, 2007 The schedule does not get any easier for the Sturgeon Bay football team. They have started the season with three consecutive losses to Olympian/Packerland Conference schools. Valders, Oconto and Chilton kept the Clipper offense at bay by taking away quarterback Matt Curtain. This week's opponent, Wrightstown, will not have to worry about the senior team captain. Matt Curtain received news this week
that his football season is over after tearing his ACL in last
week's game. In talking with Matt this week, he said surgery will be performed in October. It is likely that he will miss all of the basketball season as well. Wrightstown comes into this week's match up with two losses on the season. A loss in week one to Menominee, Michigan and a loss to Kewaunee make up the only two defeats on their schedule. Sturgeon Bay Clipper Head Coach Gary Rabach played three quarterbacks in all last week. Nate Anschutz finished the game, but John Parent was first off the bench to replace the injured quarterback. The two were engaged in an open competition this week to determine who the starter would be come game day. Rabach will let you know in the Econo Foods pre-game show tonight which young man earned the start against Wrightstown. Our pre-game coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. on 104.1 FM WRLU. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. |

Justin Harrell
Says He's Progressing By Nick Freimuth DoorCountyDailyNews.com September 27, 2007 Green Bay Packers first round draft pick Justin Harrell has not suited up or been included on the team's active roster throughout the first three week's of the regular season. His inactive status is not because of an injury or disciplinary reason. The young man out of the University of Tennessee has not been activated because he has not proven to the coaches he deserves the playing time. Green Bay has shown an inability to run the ball to this point of the season. The fact that General Manager Ted Thompson and Head Coach Mike McCarthy selected a defensive lineman that is not contributing has raised some concern with fans. Especially when there were running backs available that were bigger names than Brandon Jackson who was selected with Green Bay's second pick of the 2007 draft. This fact has put even more pressure on Harrell to perform and prove that he was a worthy pick in the first round. Defensive tackle is known to be a position that takes a young man a few years to grow into at the NFL level. Harrell said he feels like he has gotten a lot better from what he showed during the preseason. (Audio Here) The rookie has dropped 25 pounds since training camp and is in much better playing shape. He has taken steps on the practice field that indicate he has made improvement. Harrell said going against the Packers offensive lineman in practice is making him a better player. (Audio Here) The defensive line experienced a number of minor injuries after the week two match up with the Giants. It looked like the game against San Diego would be the perfect time to be activated, however the fact that coaches did not make that move indicates that he still has a long ways to go. Justin Harrell will always be looked at under a magnifying glass because of where he was selected in the draft. To this point in the season there is no evidence indicating he was a worthwhile selection at the sixteenth overall pick in the draft. |

The Green Bay Packers proved themselves
once again yesterday at Lambeau Field with a 31-24 win over the San
Diego Chargers. The game started off with a momentum killing
incomplete pass on fourth and two. Favre tried to hit Driver on a
quick slant when he looked to be knocked off his route by the
Chargers secondary. Pass interference was not called and Phillip
Rivers led the Chargers down the field for a quick 7-point lead. |
