Bulldogs Too Much To Handle For Spartans
By Mike Kollmansberger DoorCountyDailyNews.com
September 15, 2007

The New London Bulldogs showed why they will be right in the hunt for a conference championship as they dominated the Luxemburg-Casco Spartans Friday night 33-7 in New London. The Bulldogs took control of this game early on and never really allowed the Spartans any chance of getting back into it. New London scored twice in the first half. Senior Justin Pflum got things started for the Bulldogs on a 3 yard touchdown run mid-way through the first quarter. Senior tight end Mitch Schuh recovered a fumble in the end zone early in the second quarter to give his team a 14-0 halftime lead. New London ended any hope of a Spartan comeback by adding a 45 yard touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Trevor Hass to Schuh and a 41 yard touchdown run by senior running back Jake Hermsen that made the score 27-0. Luxemburg-Casco's senior Derek Willems returned the ensuing kickoff 83 yards for the Spartans only score of the night. New London finished off the scoring on the second touchdown hook up between Hass and Schuh on the evening, this time a 16 yard-er halfway through the fourth quarter. The Spartans managed only 150 yards of total offense compared to the Bulldogs 441 yards. Hass ended an impressive night 9 of 14 for 204 yards and two TDs with one INT. Hermsen led the ground attack with 148 yards on just 18 carries and the one score. Schuh had three receptions for 76 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Bulldog receivers. Despite the discrepancy in numbers, Luxemburg-Casco had some opportunities to score early on and keep the game close however they were once again plagued by turnovers and penalties, something head coach Pete Kline just can't explain.

The Spartans will try to regroup as they head back home next Friday night to face Seymour for their homecoming game. The broadcast can be heard on 96.7FM WBDK beginning at 6:45pm.

Spartans Look To Continue Winning Ways At New London
By Mike Kollmansberger DoorCountyDailyNews.com
September 14, 2007

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans hope to even their season record at a tough location Friday night as they travel to New London to face the Bulldogs.  The broadcast begins at 6:45pm on 96.7FM WBDK.  New London comes into the contest 2-1 overall and in the conference, winning last week 28-14 over Marinette.  That came after a 40-7 drubbing of Oconto Falls in week two.  The only loss of the season for the Bulldogs came in week one, a 29-27 overtime defeat to West De Pere. The Spartans were able to put almost everything together last week in the 27-0 shutout of Shawano at Luxemburg-Casco High School.  An offense that gained over 300 yards on the ground and a defense that gave up only 86 yards of total offense and kept the Hawks scoreless earned L-C their first win of the season and as a member of the newly formed Bay Conference. You can hear L-C Head Coach Pete Kline's thoughts about New London on our pre game show tonight at 6:45 on 96.7FM WBDK.

Packers Crosby Named Player Of The Week
By Nick Freimuth DoorCountyDailyNews.com
September 13, 2007

Green Bay Packer rookie kicker Mason Crosby has had an amazing week. At the end of the preseason, Crosby learned he beat out incumbent kicker Dave Rayner for a roster spot, celebrated his 23rd birthday, hit the game winning 42 yard field goal against Philadelphia and now has been named the special teams player of the week for the NFL. The announcement was made yesterday. Crosby was successful on all three field goal attempts last Sunday. The late 42 yard field goal was the first game-winner by a rookie on Kickoff Weekend since 1979 (MATT BAHR).
A sixth-round pick out of Colorado, Crosby began his NFL career with a 53-yard field goal in the first quarter, one-yard shy of the franchise record (54). Crosby is the first player in NFL history to kick a 50-yard field goal and a game-winning field goal with under a minute remaining in his NFL debut.
In his rookie season from Colorado, this is Crosby’s first career Player of the Week Award. Crosby is the first rookie kicker to be named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week on Kickoff Weekend.

Green Bay linebacker Nick Barnett had a game-high 13 tackles and one interception in the Packers’ 16-13 victory over Philadelphia. He was a nominee for NFC Defensive Player of Week 1.

Green Bay rookie kicker Mason Crosby was essentially baptized by fire yesterday. He was asked to kick a game winning 42-yard field goal with two seconds left on the clock. He also hit a 53-yard field goal in the first half on his way to a 3-for-3 performance during his first NFL regular season game. The rookie stood tall and proud at the podium in the media auditorium after the game.
The Packers punt coverage team made two game changing performances to help earn the 16-13 win over the Eagles. A fumble recovered for a touchdown and a late fumble recovery off a muffed punt provided 10 of the teams 16 points.
Jarrett Bush caused the first fumble and recovered the second fumble to put the Packers in a position to win the game. He said it was important for special teams to set the tone.

Packers Kick Off Regular Season TODAY
By Nick Freimuth DoorCountyDailyNews.com
September 9, 2007

Green Bay kicks off its 89th season in franchise history today by welcoming the Philadelphia Eagles to historic Lambeau Field. The Packers are 47-36-3 (.564) all-time in season openers but have lost three of their last four. Green Bay opens its season at home for the second consecutive season. The Packers will look to change the trend with an extremely young team. Rookie kicker Mason Crosby beat out the incumbent Dave Rayner for the position. This will be his first opportunity to kick at Lambeau when every kick could mean the difference between a win or a loss.

Rookie running back Deshawn Wynn was injured for most of the preseason, however it looks like he may play a role in this week’s offensive scheme.

The Eagles will throw a heavy amount of blitz packages at the young Packer line and running backs. Favre may have to use his legs more than he cares too throughout the contest. Coach McCarthy said this week he still intends on letting the veteran get outside the pocket and make plays. This week will be a perfect opportunity to just that.
The Eagles and Packers play on 104.1 FM WRLU and 105.1 FM WSBW. The regular season opener will kickoff at 12:00 p.m.
