Take In A Night Game In Baileys Harbor
By Jocko Rader DoorCountyDailyNews.com
June 22, 2007

Baileys Harbor made history in the Door County Baseball League last Friday night. They played a game under the lights.  Yes, that's right, Baileys Harbor now has lights on its field and a dedication was held prior to the game.  Event chair Jim Parent, Bill and John Becker and Bob Schultz put a lot of time in on the project with many other people. They won the game 10 to 5 on a beautiful night in the Harbor.  In other DCBL action, we had West Jacksonport winning with a four run rally in the ninth 17 to 16.  Maplewood won on the Island 13 to 8 in another slug fest and it was Kolberg in a squeaker 7 to 6 over Sister Bay.  Home run hitters this week,  Matt Foss of the Island, Jeff Sperber for the Mets and Eric DeJardine two and Jake Junion two for Egg Harbor , Robbi Schartner one for the Indians.  Ryan Tanck, Dave Jilot, Danny Hanson one for West Jacksonport, Bobby Tenor, Derek Ray and Chris Wery one for Kolberg.  Kyle Thayse, had five hits off the Mets and Ryan Tanck had four for the ports. Leading the league in hitting as of now is Travis LeRoy with a .435 average, followed by Ryan Tanck atr.429, then its Scott Price with a  .412 average and Steve Jilot with a .412. Mickey Lee is also in at .389 to get in this weeks top five.
This weeks we have West Jacksonport going to Institute to take on the Cubs, who started 2 and 0 and now have lost four in a row.  The Ports won a big come from behind game and have the fire power to do so with a potent lineup.  The Cubs are not getting the pitching they did earlier in the season so its the ports in this one. Kolberg will be going to Egg Harbor in a big game as they are now 3 and 2 with the Harbor team also three and two.  the Indians have been on the warpath as of late and had the ports on the ropes Sunday but could delivery the knockout punch and lost.  Can they get over the big loss Sunday is the question.  I will go with them to pull the victory off over Kolberg. Baileys Harbor will take its 5 and 1 record to Maplewood and play the 4 and 2 Mets.  Its the marquee game of the week and Maplewood has been hitting the ball as of late, but so has the Harbor with 16 runs Sunday against a tough Jacksonport team. The last game we have is the Islanders coming to the mainland to take on the Sister Bay team and the Islanders have yet to win.  Sister Bay continues to have its problem in the pitching dept as they are allowing way to many runs.  When have the Islanders lost seven games in a row?  Not in the years that I can remember.  I will go with them to win on  Sunday, as I think Matt Ash will be the difference.  Well that's it for this week and its hard to believe we are at the half way point in the season.   All games start at 1:30 at your favorite park, so take in a game Sunday, at Sister Bay, Maplewood, Institute or Egg Harbor.  See you at the game!

Favre Says Ankle Feels Good
By Nick Freimuth DoorCountyDailyNews.com
June 17, 2007

The Green Bay Packers have seen wonderful attendance from the players at the 2007 OTA's. Players that said they would not attend like Charles Woodson showed up. Cornerback Al Harris was not expected. He was in attendance. Brett Favre has missed only two practices.

Favre said his arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle after the season to clean out bone spurs went extremely well. Running around, making passes and cutting was no problem for the 17 year vet. I asked Brett at his press conference on Thursday if his ankle was giving him any grief.

(Audio Here)

Brett sat out Wednesday and Thursday because of tendonitis in his throwing shoulder. Earlier in his career, Favre developed tendonitis in his elbow. The Packers QB said he kept on throwing and it got worse, so he will not make the same mistake this year.

(Audio Here)

The Packers have had the best attendance throughout OTA's that they have seen in years. Coach McCarthy said he will not be satisfied until he has 100% attendance every day of off season preparation.
