Packers To Celebrate 50th Anniversary Of Lambeau Field

The 2007 Season of Green Bay Packers football will be filled with talk of the past. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Lambeau Field. The team will be wearing a special anniversary logo on their jerseys and a variety of tributes will be held throughout the season.
“Lambeau Field is one of the most hallowed sites in all of sports, and we’re very excited to honor the 50th anniversary of its opening this season,” said Packers President/COO John Jones. “Fans visiting Lambeau this year will have a number of fun ways to celebrate its anniversary. We look forward to welcoming them here and taking part in recognizing the great tradition of our proud stadium.”
An anniversary logo was created to mark the occasion and it will be a prominent feature on many team items throughout the year.
Among the items that will feature the anniversary logo are the team’s uniforms, Gameday Program, the media guide and the Packers Yearbook. Lambeau Field itself also will feature the special logo on-field in both end zones for the entire season.
Packers ticket holders will enjoy images of Lambeau Field through the years on their tickets as well.
In addition, a special commemorative project was commissioned to celebrate the anniversary in a unique way. Plans to unveil the project are set for July.
On game days inside Lambeau Field, the TundraVision video boards will play vignettes featuring key moments from the stadium’s rich history.
Dedicated as City Stadium Sept. 29, 1957, with a 21-17 victory over the archrival Chicago Bears, the team renamed the facility Lambeau Field in 1965 following the death of E.L. ‘Curly’ Lambeau, the Packers’ founder and first coach. It is the NFL’s longest-tenured facility.

Sevastopol took the WIAA Division 3 Sectional Tournament held in Stevens Point Pacelli yesterday.
The Pioneers started by winning a 1-0 pitchers dual against Laconia in the semi-final. Pitcher Courtney Kaye went 6 2/3 innings and recorded nine strikeouts. Allowing four hits and three walks it was an intense game from start to finish.
With a Laconia runner at third base and one out in the seventh inning, Pioneers Head Coach Heather Fellner Spetz brought Carissa "Hop 'N Pop" Neinas in to seal the deal. Neinas struck out the leadoff and second batter in the Laconia order to strand the runner and send Sevastopol to the Sectional final.
The Pioneers managed just three hits in the game. Allison Junion, Sarah Junion and Jenna Wheat all singled. The lone run was scored in the first inning when Sarah Junion reached base. She stole second and scooted to third on a past ball. Neinas belted a sac fly to score Junion.

Carissa Neinas went the distance in the pitching circle and did not walk a batter. Solid defense and a seven run fifth inning led to the win.

Sevastopol executed a double play with the second out at home plate to get out of the jam. L-C Heads To Sectional Finals
By Nick Freimuth DoorCountyDailyNews.com
May 31, 2007

The WIAA Regional final baseball game between Southern Door and Luxemburg yesterday in Brussels was a game to remember. The Eagles jumped out to a quick one run lead in the second inning on a sacrifice infield line drive by Tyler DeBauche.

L-C would answer in the third inning on some aggressive base running by Derek Schmelzer. The Spartans would take their first lead in the top of the fourth inning when Justin Seidl recorded and RBI single to score Ryan “The Rocket” Adams.
The Eagles scored three runs to take what seemed to be a commanding two run lead. The score would be 4-3 Southern Door with two outs and a runner at third for L-C in the top of the seventh inning.
The batter was Justin Zellner and he was facing the Packerland Conference player of the year pitcher Joel Delorit. All of the weight of the world was on the left fielder with two strikes against him. Zellner singled to right field and Schmelzer score easily.
The run tied the game up at four. Brandon Alexander went through four batters in the bottom of the inning before sending the contest to extra innings.
Joel Delorit came into the game in the second inning and only was allowed to pitch six innings because he threw one inning against Denmark the night before.
Junior Mike Blizel had to fill in for Delorit and gave up four runs in the eighth inning. The Spartans exploded offensively to win the thrilling regional final 8-4. It marks the third regional championship in four years for L-C.
They will face Fox Valley Lutheran on Tuesday in Clintonville. The Sectional semi-final will be broadcast on 96.7 FM WBDK. Our pre-game coverage will begin at 12:45 p.m. with the first pitch at 1:00 p.m.
Also yesterday, Gibraltar lost to Green Lake. The final score was Green Lake 7, Gibraltar 2.

Algoma fell to Brillion 2-1 in WIAA Division 3 regional baseball. Jake Lebotte threw a five strike out performance for the Wolves and only gave up two runs but the offense did not help him. Brillion pitcher Jared Plate pitched a two-hitter with seven strikeouts to one up Lebotte. The Wolves gave up a run in the fourth and seventh innings.

Gibraltar had better luck on the diamond and topped Oshkosh Lourdes 6-4 in Division 4 playoff action. Vikings pitcher Justin Reynolds had a no-hitter intact through six complete innings. Things fell apart in the seventh but Gibraltar still escaped with the victory. Reliever Ian Anschutz struck out a batter with two out and two on to seal the deal. Greg Ausloos led the way at the plate for the Vikings with a 2x3 performance.

By Nick Freimuth DoorCountyDailyNews.com
May 29, 2007

WIAA Division II Regional baseball can be heard this afternoon on 96.7 FM WBDK. The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans host Sturgeon Bay in a regional semi-final match up starting at 4:30 p.m. Our pre-game coverage will begin at 4:10 p.m. Clippers Head Coach Matt Propsom and Spartans Head Coach Terry Jorgensen will preview the third match up of the season between these two teams.
L-C hosted the first regular season match up. Surgeon Bay won the game 6-3. The Clippers hosted the second game between the two squads. The Spartans won by the final score of 7-3 in Sturgeon Bay.
Luxemburg-Casco received the number two seed in the regional and will host this afternoon’s game. Sturgeon Bay beat Mishicot Friday to advance to the second round of the tournament.
Coach Propsom knows tournament experience is valuable in a game like this. His kids played on Friday and L-C had a bye. However, the Spartans played to the Sectionals last year and carried over a few starters from that squad. Propsom said post-season experience might play into the game.

Coach Propsom and Coach Jorgensen will talk more about the intangibles in the pre-game show this afternoon starting at 4:10 p.m. on 96.7 FM WBDK.

Baileys Harbor edged Kolberg 6-5. Travis Price hit a two-run shot that gave the A's the lead for good. Brett Anschutz earned the win on the mound. Sturgeon Bay Grad Sparks UWSP Offense and Trip To World Series
By Nick Freimuth DoorCountyDailyNews.com
May 27, 2007

Sturgeon Bay graduate Stewart Larsen is playing in the NCAA Division III baseball World Series after the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point baseball team topped Carthage College yesterday. The 12-8 victory, sets up a match up between the Pointers and the winner of Eastern Connecticut and Cortland State (N.Y.).
In yesterday's game, Larsen started a second inning rally by laying down a sacrifice bunt. Flawless execution put UWSP in a position to take the lead for the first time in the second.
The lead would not last. Carthage led 4-2 in the top of the fourth and Larsen bunted two runners into scoring position again. Both would score in the inning. On paper, it looked like a poor day at the plate for the Sturgeon Bay graduate. However, it was Larsen's ability to lay the big sacrifice bunts down that gave the Pointers go ahead runs in the second and fourth innings.
Tickets for Tuesday's NCAA Division III baseball World Series will be available at the gate at the Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton.
