Door County Baseball
League WE HAD A FEW UPSETS THIS LAST WEEK, WITH EGG HARBOR BEATING MAPLEWOOD, SISTER BAY BEATING THE INSTITUTE TEAM AND BAILEYS HARBOR WINNING OVER KOLBERG. JACKSONPORT WON OVER THE ISLAND IN A CLOSE GAME TO STAY UNDEFEATED. LETS LOOK AT THE TOP HITTERS THIS WEEK. WE DID NOT HAVE A LOT AS THE PITCHERS TOOK OVER. JASON ENNIS TWO, RYAN BRUNGRABER THREE FOR THE CUBS. CHARLIE SCHELL, 4 FOR SISTER BAY. ADAM BIWER HAD TWO FOR THE BAYS. MICKEY LEE TWO FOR MAPLEWOOD, AND BOB FELLNER TWO FOR THE INDIANS. FOR THE AS WE HAD BRETT ANSCHUTZ AND SCOTT PRICE HAD THREE HITS FOR THE SAME TEAM. JACK SCHARTNER A BIG HOMERUN FOR EGG HARBOR AND TRAVIS PRICE ONE FOR THE BAILEYS HARBOR TEAM. TOP PITCHERS FOR THE WEEK, DAVE JILOT FOR THE PORTS, ROBI SCHARTNER FOR THE EGG HARBOR TEAM, MATT HIGGENBOTTOM SISTER BAY IN RELIEF AND BRETT ANSCHUTZ MAKING HIS FIRST START THIS YEAR FOR BAILEYS HARBOR. TOP DEFENSIVE PLAYS HAD TO BE A OUTSTANDING PLAY BY TRAVIS LEROY OF KOLBERG GOING DEEP IN THE HOLE AND GETTING THE RUNNER OUT BY A HALF STEP. TEAMMATE GREG KLAUBAUGH WITH A OVER THE SHOULDER CATCH FROM THIRD GOING INTO LEFT FIELD. MIKE JACQUES WITH A LEAPING CATCH OFF FIRST ON A ROCKET HIT BALL, HOWEVER TO NO AVAIL AS THE CATCHER WAS CALLED FOR BATTER INTERFERENCE. JOHN PARENT, SOPHOMORE AT ST. BAY AND PLAYING LEFT FIELD, CATCHING ONE A THE FENCE IN THE BOTTOM OF THE NINTH WITH THE WINNING RUN ON BASE. WELL LETS LOOK AT THIS WEEKS GAMES. EGG HARBOR AT SISTER BAY, SISTER BAY IS HITTING THE BALL, SO CAN ROBI SCHARTNER QUITE THE BATS FOR THE INDIANS. IT WILL BE CLOSE AND I WILL GO WITH EGG HARBOR IN A TWO RUN GAME. INSTITUTE WHO WAS MINUS PAUL PARENT LAST WEEK GOES TO MAPLEWOOD, TO TAKE ON THE METS. WICK MAN’S TEAM IS NOT DOING A GOOD JOB WITH THE BAT AND THEY FACE A TOUGH PITCHER IN PARENT THIS WEEK. THEY HAD BETTER WAKE UP, OR THEY ARE IN DEEP TROUBLE AT 1 AND THREE. THE CUBS ARE A SURPRISE TEAM THIS YEAR AND WILL BE TOUGH TO BEAT. I WILL GO WITH THE METS IN A ONE RUN GAME. KOLBERG AT WASHINGTON ISLAND. HAD TO BELIEVE THE ISLANDERS ARE 0 AND 3, MATT ASH HAS DONE AN OUTSTANDING JOB ON THE MOUND SO FAR BUT HIS TEAMS BATS ARE ALSO QUITE. KOLBERG IS ANOTHER TEAM THAT IS NOT HITTING. WHAT’S UP WITH THESE GUYS? THEY LIKE THE METS CANNOT AFFORD TO GO 1 AND 3. ISLAND, IS TOUGH, TOUGH AND TOUGHER AT HOME. HOWEVER THE ISLANDERS LIKE ME TO PICK THE OTHER TEAM SO KOLBERG I AM GOING WITH YOU ONE MORE WEEK. BAILEYS HARBOR AT WEST JACKSONPORT. THIS IS THE MARQUEE GAME OF THE WEEK. BOTH COMING IN 3 AND O. THE PORTS HAVE A FINE TEAM, AND NOW GET STUART LARSEN BACK AND JOEL DELORIT. THAT’S ALL THE A'S HAVE TO HEAR RIGHT. HOWEVER AS I SAID EARLIER IN THE YEAR THEY ARE MY SURPRISE TEAM OF THE YEAR AND WITH ANSCHUTZ ON THE MOUND WILL BE TOUGH TO BEAT. ITS AT JACKSONPORT SO I AM GOING WITH RYAN TANCKS TEAM TO COME OUT ON TOP AND BE FOUR AND 0 AFTER SUNDAY. IT WILL BE CLOSE AND A GREAT GAME TO WATCH FOR YOU FANS IN THAT AREA. IT’S NOT ON ANY SCHEDULES THAT I KNOW OF, BUT THE ALL STAR GAME IS AT INSTITUTE ON JULY 26TH. PUT IT ON YOUR CALENDAR. |

L-C Heads To Sectional
Finals
By Nick Freimuth DoorCountyDailyNews.com May 31, 2007 The WIAA Regional final baseball game between Southern Door and Luxemburg yesterday in Brussels was a game to remember. The Eagles jumped out to a quick one run lead in the second inning on a sacrifice infield line drive by Tyler DeBauche.
L-C would answer in the
third inning on some aggressive base running by Derek Schmelzer.
The Spartans would take their first lead in the top of the
fourth inning when Justin Seidl recorded and RBI single to score
Ryan “The Rocket” Adams.
The Eagles scored three runs to take what seemed to be a commanding two run lead. The score would be 4-3 Southern Door with two outs and a runner at third for L-C in the top of the seventh inning. The batter was Justin Zellner and he was facing the Packerland Conference player of the year pitcher Joel Delorit. All of the weight of the world was on the left fielder with two strikes against him. Zellner singled to right field and Schmelzer score easily.
The run tied the game up
at four. Brandon Alexander went through four batters in the
bottom of the inning before sending the contest to extra
innings.
Joel Delorit came into the
game in the second inning and only was allowed to pitch six
innings because he threw one inning against Denmark the night
before.
Junior Mike Blizel had to
fill in for Delorit and gave up four runs in the eighth inning.
The Spartans exploded offensively to win the thrilling regional
final 8-4. It marks the third regional championship in four
years for L-C.
They
will face Fox Valley Lutheran on Tuesday in Clintonville. The
Sectional semi-final will be broadcast on 96.7 FM WBDK. Our pre-game
coverage will begin at 12:45 p.m. with the first pitch at 1:00 p.m.Also yesterday, Gibraltar lost to Green Lake. The final score was Green Lake 7, Gibraltar 2. |
