Northern Door County Forest Fire Difficult To Fight

A low lying and fast moving forest fire spread through the bluff-line near Gills Rock this morning at 9:00. Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Fire Chief Chris Hecht responded to a report of a brush fire possibly near a structure off Timberline Road.

Mandatory Day Of Rest For Car Dealers

You can gamble on Sunday. You can buy cigarettes and cigars, a shot and a beer but you cannot buy a car on Sundays in Wisconsin. Just l4 states, Wisconsin included, prohibit buying cars on Sundays. Many years ago, legislatures adopted what were called "Blue Laws," designed to get people into churches and out of bars and businesses for one day a week.

Sturgeon Bay School Board Rejects WIAA Request At Last Night's Meeting

The Sturgeon Bay School Board turned away a request made by the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletics Association to hang banners at state competition functions. The banners promote the WIAA and paid sponsors. Superintendant Joe Stutting said the board agreed that paid state sponsors should stay out of their facility.

Cold weather has arrived and some animals trend into a dormant state. The Door County Volunteer Center is hoping that this year humans will not do the same. The Volunteer Center of Door County is in need of able bodied individuals to help with various volunteer services.

Deer Hunters Will Boost Local Economy

The gun-deer hunting season is as big an annual tradition in Wisconsin as Packer games or Summerfest. Thousands of outdoor enthusiasts will take to the woods with hopes of bagging the biggest buck on record. Traditionally, that also means a major boost to the Door and Kewaunee County economies. With many local economies feeling the pinch of a struggling national market, some area business owners believe that won't impact next week's big hunt.

Door County YMCA Sports Programs

The Door County YMCA offers sports of all sorts for every age group. Last night on the Sports Page on 104.1 FM WRLU, Youth Sports and Teen Director Jaime Stutting was my guest. The weekly sports talk show is broadcast from the Ladder House in downtown Sturgeon Bay.
   Stutting has developed a new cheer leading program at the YMCA. The first class had 40 girls enrolled.
