Dexter “Dex” R. Cross, 80, of Sturgeon Bay, WI, died Thursday morning, March 7, 2013, at Whispering Heights CBRF, where he had resided the past year.
Dex was born October 21, 1932, in Oshkosh, WI, the son of the late Ray and Ella (Smith) Cross. He graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1950 and continued his education at Oshkosh Business College. Upon his graduation from college in 1952, Dex served his country in the United States Air Force until 1956. After serving, he worked for Honeywell, a data processing company, at different locations around the country before his tenure in Chicago, IL, as branch manager.
Dex met Phyllis V. Ihlenfeldt while at Business College and was united in marriage to her on January 24, 1953, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Norman, WI, in Kewaunee County. They moved to Sturgeon Bay, where their family was living, in 1990. Dex loved his children and grandchildren very much. He also enjoyed fishing and especially golfing.
Dex will be deeply missed by his wife, Phyllis; three children, Russell “Russ” (Leslie) Cross, Denise (Gerald) Banks, Diane Buechner, all of Sturgeon Bay; eight grandchildren, Gina Cross, Joseph (Ibolya) Cross, Theresa (John) Quaderer, Laura (Jason) Estes; Maggie and Molly Banks; Andrew and Abby Buechner; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Audrey Krueger of Fond Du Lac, WI.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marion Emerson; grandson, Jeffrey Cross; and son-in-law, William Buechner.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay with Fr. Carl Schmitt as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Sturgeon Bay.
Friends may call at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 13, 2013, and at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. A parish wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday evening at Huehns Funeral Home.
