Evelyn E. Grassel, 103, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away on Feb. 21, 2013. She was born on May 23, 1909, to James and Jennie (Nelson) Gordon. Evelyn attended Morning Star School and graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1927. She married Edward John Grassel in Milwaukee on April 19, 1920. He preceded her in death on Jan. 17, 1979.
Evelyn lived in Door County her entire life except for a short time when she worked in Milwaukee. In Door County she did secretarial and bookkeeping work for Reynolds Brothers, Inc., Bay Shipbuilding, Parsons Accounting Firm and Therma-Tron-X. She was a member of Bay View Lutheran Church, the Door County Writers, and the Round Robin Writers Group.
Survivors include three children, James Grassel, Sturgeon Bay; Gerald (Sally Schroepfer) Grassel, Clintonville; and Lois (John) Koehn, Sturgeon Bay; six grandchildren, Terry (Gary) Swiggum, Edith (Kyle) Peter, Christan Koehn, Mathew Grassel, Michael (Michelle) Grassel, and Marc (Dinah) Grassel; ten great-grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren, 13 step-great-grandchildren, and 1 step-great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother, Stanley (Shirley) Gordon, a sister, Olive (Archie) Plotkin and two daughters-in-law, Bernie Grassel and Anne Grassel.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at Bay View Lutheran Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be directed to the Bay View Lutheran Church Building Fund or a charity of your choice.
