Michael J. Sodd

Michael J. Sodd passed away January 13, 2013, at Hearthside Assisted Living Center in Sister Bay.

Mike was born June 3, 1954 in Orlando, Florida. He grew up in Toledo, OH. In 1970, he moved to Door County and met the love of his life, Robin Lent. They both attended Gibraltar High School, where Mike played football and Robin was a cheerleader. After high school, Mike attended NWTC where he studied architectural drafting. He worked for many years for shipyards and paper mills as a design draftsman. After deciding to spend more time in Door County, Mike became a chef at various local restaurants, including the C&C Club, the English Inn, and the St. Joseph's Retreat at Kangaroo Lake. Most recently Mike worked as Assistant Dock master at the Egg Harbor and Baileys Harbor Marinas.

Mike loved the outdoors and enjoyed boating, fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving, and camping. He loved skiing and spent time at Ski Brule, and in Lake Tahoe. He loved music and loved to play guitar with his friends in his basement studio. He also liked art and had taken many photographs and sketched many drawings of his favorite places. Mike was a lover of classic cars and often attended the Turkey Road Run in Daytona Beach.

Mike is survived by his wife of 37 years, Robin, and their son Jamie of Milwaukee. In the past year, Mike helped Jamie buy and remodel a house in Milwaukee. He wanted to make sure that his son had a home of his own.

He is also survived by his step-mother, Sylvia Sodd; sister, Jyl Sodd, and her fiancee Bill Williams; and brother Doug Sodd. Also survived by niece Erin Leyendecker, her husband Ralph, and children Selena, Alexis, and Aiden; niece Kendra Feola, her fiancee Brad, and son Chase; niece Alaina Dart; niece Kayla Bailey, her husband Nick, and daughter Sophia; niece Rae Lee Kaaikaula, her husband Bobby, and son Braylen.

Mike is also survived by his sister-in-law Pamela Lent and her husband Jim Parent; sister-in-law Tricia D'amico, her husband Dan, and children Krysta, Joey, and Antonio; mother-in-law Dolores Lent; special relatives Susi and Taylor Kwaterski, and many special aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Preceding Mike in death were his father, James Sodd; mother, Shirley (Engerson) Barongi; his sisters, Toni (Brand) Schrier, and Debbie (Brand) Dart. Also his father-in-law, Roger Lent, who passed away in January of 2012.

Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Sister Bay, on January 26, with visitation at 2pm, and service at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, a Memorial Fund has been established in Mike's name at North Shore Bank in Sister Bay.

We will miss your kind smile and wonderful sense of humor. You will always be in our hearts. May the Lord bless you and keep you safe until we meet again Our heartfelt thanks to our many friends and family who made calls, sent emails, brought food, or stopped by to visit over the past several months during Mike's illness. It was a sad time for our family, but with all of your support, thoughts and prayers, we were able to get through it, and for that we are so grateful.

We would especially like to thank Pastors Gary Scharrig, Sue Gunderson, Mark Billington, Joy Zakrzewski, and Delmar Dahl, and Father Byron Haaland for their prayers and kind words.

We would also like to thank the caring staffs of Hearthside, Scand, and Unity Hospice for their kindness and compassion.
