Milton “Milty” John Daanen, 82, of Tacoma Beach Road, Sturgeon Bay, was called Home on Tuesday evening (January 8, 2013) at Golden Living Center/Dorchester with family and friends at his side.
He was born January 4, 1931, in De Pere, WI, the son of John and Marie (Huisenfeldt) Daanen. After graduating from St. Norbert High School in 1949, he studied at Spencerian Business College in Milwaukee, WI, for two years where he met Audrey Marie Dettl. They were united in marriage on February 12, 1955, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Wauwatosa, WI. Milty served his country in the United States Coast Guard in the North Atlantic from 1950 until 1953.
Together, Milty and Audrey owned and operated the Out-O-Town Supper Club in Kaukauna for 27 years. They moved to Door County in 1986 and managed the Nautical Inn until 1988. Milty also worked as a meat cutter for Main Street Market in Egg Harbor, retiring in 1999.
He was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay. Milty was also a member of the Sturgeon Bay Kiwanis Club. He was recently recognized for his 25 years of service and position as past president. Milty enjoyed boating and fishing and cutting the grass on his tractor.
Milty will be deeply missed by his wife, Audrey, of Sturgeon Bay; four children, Deborah Ann (Jamie) Daanen-VanDalen of Combined Locks, WI, Gregory (Karen) Daanen of Menomonee Falls, WI, Jeffrey (Amy) Daanen of Green Bay, and Carrie Ann (Scott) Callahan of Winter Park, FL; 10 grandchildren, Danielle Daanen, Derek Daanen, Melissa McCallister, Gina Daanen, Brandon Daanen, Emmah Daanen, Ally Daanen, Isabelle Pilote, Rachel Callahan, and Caroline Callahan; one great-granddaughter, Lily McCallister; and other dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Jack Daanen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2013, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay with Rev. Carl Schmitt and Rev. Anthony Birdsall concelebrating with full military honors to follow. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Kaukauna, WI.
Friends may call at the church from 12:30 p.m. until the time of Mass at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Milton’s name to the Golden Living Center/Dorchester or Unity Hospice.
