Herbert A. Petersen, 95, of Sturgeon BayTownship, passed away on Saturday, December 15, 2012, at the Golden Living Center-Dorchester, Sturgeon Bay, where he had been a resident the past year. He was born in Milwaukee on July 20, 1917, the son of the late Ernest and Francis Petersen. The family moved to Sturgeon Bay in 1919, to the family farm on Lily Bay Road. Herbert attended and graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1934. Upon the passing of his father in 1934, he assumed the running of the family farm. He married Isaballe Jome in 1943; she preceded him in death in 2009.
Herb also served the community in many capacities, including the Evergreen School Board, Evergreen Telephone Company, Bay View Lutheran Church Council, Sturgeon Bay Town Board Supervisor and Door County Board of Supervisors for 10 years, including two years as chairman in 1972-73.
Survivors include his sons, James (Linda) Petersen, Egg Harbor; Dale (Mary) Petersen, Green Bay and Jeff (Judy Harmann) Petersen, Sturgeon Bay; four grandchildren, Sara (Tim) Guyette, St. Paul, MN; Jaime (Megan Coe) Petersen, North St. Paul, MN; Joe (Joanna) Petersen, Green Bay and Kate Petersen, Kaukauna; three great-grandchildren, Owen Guyette, Claire and Eric Petersen; sister-in-law, Jean Jome, Forestville and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Mildred (Matt) Wodack; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Kermit and Esther Jome, Henry and Bernice Kolstad, Franklin and Agnes Jome, Gabe and Lorraine Kerscher, Sigurd and Florence Meland, Archie MacCallum, Sylvester Jome, Walton and Hattie Jome.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m.Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at Bay View Lutheran Church with the Rev. Tim Malek officiating. Entombment will be in the Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum. Friends may call on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the Forbes Funeral Home and on Tuesday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services.
