Doris H. Moore, 86, of Sturgeon Bay, was called home Thursday morning (November 15, 2012) at Whispering Pines Assisted Living.
She was born April 7, 1926 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of the late John William Hampton and Alice Grace Melling. Following graduating from high school she put herself through secretarial school working at Northwestern University. Doris worked for 30 years at Edax Company in Half Day, Illinois. On March 31, 1949 she married Ted Nelson Moore in Skokie, Illinois. They moved to Fish Creek in 1976 and owned and operated Moore’s Amusement, a vending machine business throughout the county. She worked for Bissen Blacktop for many years, and they moved to Sturgeon Bay in 1989. She retired at age 74 from Bissen Blacktop. Ted preceded her in death on February 21, 1992.
Doris was a member of Hope United Church of Christ. She was active in her church choirs ever since she was a young girl until she was unable to attend due to physical ailments.
She was an avid reader, worldwide traveler, and loved following sports teams. Doris will be remembered as a loving wife, and patient mother, accepting of all.
Survivors include her two children, Ted (Theresa) Moore of Sturgeon Bay, Bonnie (James) Pollack of Eden Prairie, MN; her son in-law, Michael Hickey of Island Lake, IL; three grandchildren, Paul, James, David; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, daughter, Cathy Hickey (2008), three brothers, one sister.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday (November 19, 2012) at Hope United Church of Christ with Rev. Phillips Sweet officiating. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her memory to Hope United Church of Christ or Sturgeon Bay Public Library.
