Laila J. Whipple, 82 years, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away peacefully with her children at her side on Friday, October 5, 2012 at Ministry-Door County Medical Center.
She was born March 3, 1930 in Crystal Falls, Michigan, the daughter of the late Matt and Hilda (Seppi) Maki. Laila graduated from Crystal Falls High School. Following graduation she moved to Sturgeon Bay for work and lived with her aunt. On January 23, 1954 she married William R. Whipple at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay. Willy preceded her in death on March 7, 1986.
Laila worked at Amity Leather Factory, also as a housekeeper for many local businesses, and very much enjoyed her 30 years of volunteer work for Clothe My People.
She was member of St. Peters Lutheran Church since her marriage in 1954.
Survivors include her daughter, Joan Pagel, and son, William Jr. both of Sturgeon Bay; granddaughters, Crystal (Shane) Brunette, Jolene (fiancé, Dave Cumber); great-grandsons, Hunter Pagel, Levi Brunette, Alexander Cumber all of Sturgeon Bay; and one sister, Viola (Alvin) Malvitz of New Berlin, WI.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Matt and Hilda Maki, and her husband William R. Whipple.
Private family services at Huehns Funeral Home will be held with Rev. Joel Sauer officiating.
Burial will be made at Bayside Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in her memory to Clothe My People or Feed My People.
