Cathie R. Schroeder, 58, of Sturgeon Bay, died suddenly (Saturday, August 4, 2012) after arriving at Ministry Door County Medical Center Emergency Room from probable complications following a recent surgery.
She was born March 13, 1954 in Sturgeon Bay, the daughter of the late Alvin and Shirley Ann (Vertz) Wehausen. Cathie graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1972. She had worked for CACI (a sub-contractor for PBI) in Sturgeon Bay and K-Mart before finding her true calling fighting for victim’s rights in the Door County District Attorney’s office as Victim Witness Coordinator for the past 27 years.
On September 27, 1986 she married Mark A. Schroeder at Cave Point. She was a voracious reader (currently was reading three books), she enjoyed watching Packer games loved camping, and traveling (especially to Florida to visit family and friends). She loved warm weather. Cathie looked forward to working at Irish Fest in Milwaukee which she had done for the past 10 years.
She had been a member of the Red Hatters, Sturgeon Bay JC’s, and the Golden Girls.
She leaves behind to mourn her loss, her husband, Mark of Sturgeon Bay; three children, Kristina (Mike) Schroeder-Blackley of Roanoke, VA, Mark Schroeder II, Molly Schroeder both of Sturgeon Bay; three grandchildren, Bailey, Faith, Colton; two sisters, Margaret “Marge” (Tim) Cigler of Sturgeon Bay, Gretchen (Bryan) Fjeldos of Tremonton, Utah; mother-in-law, Mildred Schroeder of Caledonia, MN; brother-in-law, Bruce Schroeder of Caledonia, MN; sister-in-law, Joyce Houdedk of Winona, MN; aunt, Mary Jane Gillis; three uncles and aunts, Oscar and Mary Lou Wehausen, John and Kay Wehausen, Herb and Loretta Wehausen Sr. She will be missed by her nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding her in death were her parents; sister, Michelle; niece and nephew, Andrea and Daniel Bay; brother, William; uncle, Pug Gillis; and father-in-law, Donald Schroeder.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday (August 9, 2012) at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Robert Konkol as celebrant.
Friends may call Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Huehns Funeral Home and at the church Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. There will be a parish wake service held at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening at Huehns Funeral Home.
Memorials may be given in her memory for Domestic Violence Prevention.
