Clifford Leroy Lindboe, 94, of Sister Bay, WI. (formerly of Palatine, IL.) passed away peacefully with family at his side at Scandia Good Samaritan Village on July 5, 2012.
Cliff was born on November 21, 1917, in Stetsonville, WI, the son of Charles and Lena (Schaefer) Lindboe. After his graduation from Dorchester High School WI., he worked on the family farm before moving to Chicago where he was employed by Cresent Tool and Die Company. Cliff enlisted in the U. S. Navy on November 19, 1942 and served on a minesweeper in the South Pacific until honorably discharged on November 22, 1945 with the rank of Motor Machinist Mate First Class.
Cliff was married to Ruth Scidmore on April 3, 1943, in San Diego, CA. They celebrated their marriage for 56 years. Ruth and son Russ preceded Cliff in death.
After military service he returned to Cresent and later formed a tool and die company, Leco Manufacturing, with two of his friends. Cliff retired after thirty years at Leco.
Cliff was a member of The Elks and Trinity Lutheran Church, both in Des Plaines, IL. During his seven years at Scandia he was often visited by Pastor Michael Brecke of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Juddville, WI. Cliff also enjoyed golfing, bowling, traveling with family, and fishing trips with grandsons. After retirement he passionately began woodcarving culminating in three hundred plus characters inspired by various phases of his life.
He will be dearly missed by his daughter, Donna (Lewis) Trupin of Fish Creek, WI.; four grandchildren, Elizabeth (John) Wannemacher of Chicago, IL., Chad (Deana Druktenis) Coleman of Naperville, IL., Todd Coleman of Fairmount, IL., Laura (Craig) Chapman of Lexington, KY.; five great-grandchildren, Kathleen and Timothy Wannemacher, Chloe Coleman, Aaliyah and Noah Chapman; two sisters-in-law, Kitty and Mamie Scidmore; and many close friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents Lena and Charles, wife Ruth, son Russ Lindboe, and three sisters; Luella Platteter, Viola Leach, and Marge Ciesielski.
Memorial services will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Juddville, WI. at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 14, 2012 with visitation at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Rev. Michael Brecke will officiate. Military honors by VFW Post #3088 will follow. Inurnment will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Arlington Heights, IL. at a later date.
The family wishes to especially thank the entire staff of the Birchwood Special Care Unit of Scandia Good Samaritan Village for their wonderful and loving care of Clifford.
