Edwin 'Ted' Meyer Jr.

Our precious Lord has received our wonderful husband, father and friend Edwin “Ted” Meyer, 85 years, Egg Harbor, to his loving arms on Saturday morning (June 23, 2012).

He was born on March 9, 1927 in Neenah, Wisconsin to Edwin A. and Flora (Johnson) Meyer. Ted was a graduate of St. Johns Military Academy of Delafield, Wisconsin and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He served his country with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers at Fort Carson, Colorado and was honorably discharged from Camp Roberts in California in 1952.

Following his discharge from service he joined Badger Paper Mills, Inc. in Peshtigo, Wisconsin of which his father founded. There he worked in the sales department in 1953. He was appointed Secretary of the company in 1957 and the Treasurer of Badger Paper Mills in 1958. Ted was elected President in 1974 and then Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in 1976. He retired in 1993.

Ted was dedicated to his positions at Badger paper and enjoyed the many friends he made and associates he worked with.

On June 10, 1973 he married Gloria L. Johnson at St. Matthew Ev. Lutheran Church.

Ted enjoyed boating and taught navigation for years. He especially enjoyed football and basketball of which he watched faithfully. He was a longtime season ticket holder with the Green Bay Packers even back when the Packers played in the original stadium. The Carolina Tar Heels were his favorite basketball team and followed them faithfully. Ted enjoyed spending time reading about sports and world news and also had a fabulous memory. His two grandchildren, Anya and Ty Ostrand were his pride and joy. He waited for their visits. Ted loved life and was a kind, gentle and an extremely generous person. He had a strong faith in his Lord and looked forward to his heavenly home.

Ted was married to his loving wife Gloria of Egg Harbor for 39 years. She survives along with four daughters and two sons, Marnie (Michael) Ostrand of Sturgeon Bay, James (Karen) Meyer of Marinette, Judy (Jim) Schmidt, Debra (LeRoy) Spitzmacher all of Peshtigo, Louise Meyer of Kenosha, and Edwin Meyer III; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; his beloved dog, Teddi; and many dear friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents, and two sisters, June Coffey and Julie Meyer.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday (June 29, 2012) at St. Peter Ev. Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay with the Rev. Darrick Kolterjahn officiating. Burial will follow at Bayside Cemetery.
