Edwin F. Poehler

Edwin F. Poehler, 90 years, of Sturgeon Bay, died Saturday evening (June 16, 2012) in De Pere at the Jack and Engrid Meng Residence of Unity Hospice.

He was born on March 4, 1922 the son of the late Fredrick and Elda (Meyer) Poehler. After graduating from Sevastopol High School in 1941, he married Irene M. Schumacher on June 27, 1942 in Sturgeon Bay. She preceded him in death on September 18, 2006.

Ed dairy farmed in Little Sturgeon along with working at Bay Ship as a welder and running his apple and cherry orchards. He was one of the original vendors at the Saturday Farmers Market in Sturgeon Bay. Not one to watch TV, Ed would read the newspaper and follow the market for his news when he was not working. Farming was his life. No one could hoe a garden as well or as long as Ed could.

Survivors include his daughter-in-law, Sherry Poehler; three daughters, Karen (Dale) Sinkler, Kathy (Dale) Rass, Linda (Butch) Georgenson; one son, John Poehler; twelve grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Pauline (Fredrick) Lueders of Waupaca; and one sister-in-law, Audrey (Ray) Hogan.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Irene; son, Frank; two infant great-grandchildren; one brother, Henry (Betty) Poehler; two sisters, Helen (Glen) Haugen, Dorothy (Ted) Kurlinski; brother-in-law, Gordon (June) Schumacher.

Private graveside committal services will be held at Bayside Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Unity Hospice and the Door County Cancer Center of Ministry/Door County Medical Center for their compassionate care shown to Ed.

Huehns Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements of Edwin Poehler. Sign guest book and offer condolences at http://www.huehnsfuneralhome.com/
