Carol Jean Dietrich

Carol Jean Dietrich, 77, Sturgeon Bay, formerly of Forestville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at the Skilled Nursing Facility in Sturgeon Bay.  She was born January 11, 1935 in Forestville to the late Herman and Ruth (Damaske) Matzke.  Carol attended St. Peter's Lutheran Grade School and graduated from the Algoma High School in 1953.  On November 10, 1956 she married Roland Dietrich at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Algoma.  They enjoyed 53 years of marriage together.  He preceded her in death on June 23, 2010.

Carol was proud of her family heritage and was honored by the State of Wisconsin for 150 years of continuous farm family ownership in 2009.  She lived on the farm until February 2011, when she moved to Pinecrest Village in Sturgeon Bay.  She was active in maintaining the history of the Brockhausen Cemetery in Forestville, which was originally part of the house farm, having been established by her great-grandfather, Henry Brockhausen in 1866.  She helped run the family farm and in 1963 they bought the farm from her mother after her father's death.  They ran the dairy farm until retiring in 1996.

She loved to bake and was well known for her delicious homemade Christmas candies, especially her Angel Food that was made from a recipe handed down through her Great Aunt.

Survivors include her daughter, Karen Doell (significant other John Englebert); three sisters-in-law, Amanda Honold, Brussels; Dawn Dietrich, Sturgeon Bay and Eunice Rex, Baileys Harbor; nieces, nephews and many friends.

Preceded in death by parents, husband, son Glen (May 2, 1993, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Selma & Lawrence Fox, William Honold, Irene & Russell Ostrand, Earl & Mary Ann Dietrich, Ruben Dietrich, Orville Dietrich, Leonard Rex and Aunts and Uncles.

Family and friends may call at the SCHINDERLE FUNERAL HOME, Algoma from 4 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2012 and after 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Salem Lutheran Church until the time of services at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. John Seelman officiating.  Prayer service Wednesday at the funeral home at 4 p.m. with Rev. John Seelman.  Burial to follow church services at the Brockhausen Cemetery in the Town of Forestville.
