Ryan Michael Collins, 19, of Sturgeon Bay, formerly of Glencoe, Illinois, passed away Tuesday (June 12, 2012) at Door County Medical Center.
He was born March 9, 1993 in Evanston, Illinois the son of Michael Kevin Collins and Mary Williene Seiler. Ryan graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka in 2011. He was a gifted athlete who loved to play street ball, and competed successfully in many AND ONE tournaments during his teen years.
Ryan wrote poetry and short stories, and planned to study Creative Writing and Philosophy in the fall at UWGB. His love of music led to his extensive and encyclopedic knowledge of Jazz and Blues compilations. This music knowledge was put to good use in his own radio show he hosted during high school. He was a very giving person who was always concerned about nature and the environment. Ryan always carried a plastic bag with him during his runs, hikes and bike trips throughout the county, feeling he had a duty to keep the outdoors as clear of garbage as possible.
Those left to mourn his passing are a loving mother and father, Mary Collins of Sturgeon Bay, and Michael Collins of Las Vegas, NV; grandmother, Ragnhild “Ronnie” Seiler of Northbrook, Illinois; step-grandmother, Sue Seiler of Evanston, Illinois; many dear aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.
Preceding him in death were his maternal grandfather, Charles Seiler; paternal grandparents, Vincent and Florence Collins.
Private services will be held in Sturgeon Bay. A memorial service for Ryan will be held in Illinois and announced at a later date.
