Jerry Edward Sargent, 83, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away Sunday evening, July 20, 2014, at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born April 8, 1931, in Wausau, the son of the late George and Margaret (Donahue) Sargent. He graduated from Sevastopol High School in 1951. While in High School, Jerry was an avid sportsman in football, basketball, and baseball all four years, earning several letters. Jerry served his country in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953. On August 1, 1953, he married, the love of his life, Geraldine Peterson at S.S. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Institute. Jerry was an auto body technician for C&W Auto Sales.
He played County League baseball for West Jacksonport and softball for the The Mill Supper Club and loved deer hunting and fishing. Jerry also liked to play cards, especially a good game of cribbage.
Survivors include his loving wife, Gerry; five children, Tom (Debbie) Sargent of Green Bay, Tina (Randy) Anderson, Lisa (Bruce) Burtnett, Lori (Kevin) Richardt, Jon (Sheila) Sargent all of Sturgeon Bay; fourteen grandchildren, Hope Reyes, Jeremiah (fiancé, Chrystal Kugle) Sargent, Jordan (fiancé, Heather Heuer) Sargent, Nicole Anderson, Gretchen Baierl, Catlin Anderson, Jillian (Trent) Hamilton, Ryan (Salina) Burtnett, Reed Burtnett, Jacob (friend, Lindy Lewan) Ehlers, Tennessa Ehlers, Zachary Richardt, Victoria (Jason) Newbauer, and Ashley (Cody) Leist; thirteen great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Wally Rankin; and many dear nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, George and Margaret Sargent; brother and sister-in-law, Charles (Mary Lou) Sargent; and sister, Georgia Rankin.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 25, 2014, at S.S. Peter & Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Bob Stegmann as celebrant. Burial will take place at a later date in Ogema, WI. Military honors by the U.S. Army and AMVETS Post 51 will follow immediately after the Mass on Friday.
Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay and at the church, Friday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. A parish wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m., Thursday evening, at Huehns Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made in his memory for Unity Hospice.
